On the eve of the 2015 celebration of the International Day of Pink , many -- myself included -- were startled to find that Laureen Harper had been named an ambassador of the event. Ms Harper's letter of support appeared on the front page of the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) , formerly known as Jer's Vision for its founder Jeremy Dias . Sparks flew briefly, and we went on about our business. CBC reported on both the controversy and the successes of the day: LGBT activists boycott #DayOfPink over Laureen Harper's involvement . Well, sort of. But not really. There were no disruptions of the event, per se. And take a look at the people writing them. And the sources they cite. This year's celebration was no exception. All the usual suspects were out, encouraging parents to keep their kids at home from school and free of the statist exercise of politically correct indoctrination. Source: Laverne Cox's Facebook Page On Thursday, March 26th, I took in Laverne Cox 's appearance at Mohawk College in Hamilton. The event was part of Ms Cox's Ain't I a Woman? lecture tour. I purchased "VIP" tickets for myself and a friend to attend a reception and photo op before the event. Ms Cox arrived late to the reception, causing some disruption of the photo op. A line up, formed inside The Arnie pub at Mohawk, was re-directed by staff to an adjacent venue. Overcrowding and poor lighting were the reasons given. I noted that the crowd gathered was larger than the 100 VIP tickets sold. In an odd twist of fate, we started out near the back of the line for photos, and ended up near the front. Laverne and yours truly. Alas, some ticket holders were turned away from the photo op as a result of the delay.
